Urban Gardening with Dog Island Farm

Rachel and Tom show us their 0.28 acre backyard urban farm. Their project A Year Without Groceries started as an experiment and has become a lifestyle. They grow a wide variety of vegetables and have 27 fruit trees. They also raise chickens, turkeys, goats, rabbits and bees.

With basically a grocery store in their backyard, they can pick the freshest vegetables and get the freshest eggs they want even though they are in an urban setting.

On their blog, Dog Island Farm, they share their experiences and articles on gardening and even small livestock care.

When asked how to get started, they advise to start small with a little raised bed and maybe a couple of chickens. You can quickly work your way up to your own urban farm.
