The Japanese Black Trifele is an indeterminate potato leaf tomato that will get about 6 feet tall. It produces nicely shaped pear tomatoes that weigh 4-6 ounces. Its a good producer and is doing well in the heat. It has the dark mahogany, purple, deep brick red colors with green tossed in as is common with ‘black’ tomatoes. It is not from Japan it is Russian. Trifele is Latvian for truffle so maybe this tomato should be called the Russian Black Truffle. I liked the flavor it was similar the ‘Black Krim.”
