Seedlings growing at end of video! These are American Boxwoods and they are pruned differently than English Boxwoods. The IVY was in the yard when we bought our home. It is time to cut back your shrubs and boxwood type hedges. Remember the 3 D’S. Dead, Diseased, and Damaged. Remove the 3 D’S first and then you can start to reduce the height and width to the shape you want. This will stimulate new growth on lower branches. On healthy Forsythias you should remove only the very old wood that is not producing very much new growth which will make the plant send up new shoots. Forsythias normal shape is tall and showy and usually does not grow as well when shaped as square boxes and round balls. This years flush of new growth on the American boxwoods will fill in most openings left by the pruning.
