I started these lotus plants about 5 weeks ago from seed. I ground down the ends of the seeds as shown on many videos on here.
I had seen many people use different medias and light to start their lotus. Most people lost them after awhile. I decided to test different things sand, clay, nothing, and gravel.
I put a very small amount of pond plant food into all of the containers except for the clay. As you can see, the clay I dug up from the yard seems to work best. In the water dish, there are three plants, hence so many leaves.

(The gravel is fish gravel from Walmart.)
I ground down the ends of the seed pods like they did in several other videos on here, that seemed to work well.
