Harvesting and preparing this years giant exhibition show onions a month before the shows start.
Firstly to pull them up, then at home the roots are cut off and the skins removed until you hit a perfect unslpit skin.
A bit of a wash and then set up to dry and ripen in a warm dark room for a month.
Hopefully by then they’ll turn a nice brown colour and the necks will shrivel so they can be tied up.
These will be entered in the National Onion Championships at Harrogate where hopefully I can beat my 5th place last year, I’ve had a 2nd place in the 5 and a 3rd in the 3 so fingers crossed this year.
This will be my last year of showing at the top level due to me not having the money, time and facilities to compete with the big boys so what will be will be.
For me a third place is like a gold medal.
